I'm parched.
Sunday, August 2, 2009

You know,
There was once this stretch of green,
just one block from my house.
There was nothing but trees,
and a pathway.
It looked really good,
a small plain you don't find often in towns of Singapore.

Not long after,
A petrol station was set-up close by.
It was by the side so it wasn't all that bad.
The plain still remained.

Well I was walking home from church that day,
and I saw towering cranes that stood high and mighty, stretching to the skies.
It looked magnificent, yes.
I wondered how people actually operated that giant thing,
not to mention, built it, and transported it, or either way round.
It just like appeared totally out of no where.

Anyhow,
this led me to think.
We venture into the cities,
and walking on the streets, we see the city lights.
We see the lights shimmering on the surface of the water.
It feels like such a magical piece of art to admire.

Soon in time to come,
the small towns we live in,
would soon sprout into skyscrapers
and concrete architecture would be abundant
like the blades of grass spread across fields.

..just like the plain near my house,
empty plots of land would be developed,
and fields other than those in stadiums,
would be rare.

It seems to me the city lights have replaced the stars.
The swimming pools have replaced the calm beaches.
The street lamps have replaced the wise trees.
The skyscrapers have replaced our mighty hills and mountains.

Have we ever wondered,
..what it was like before?

Maybe just a few hundred years ago,
we were dreaming of a place filled with skyscrapers,
with lights, with malls, with technology and what not.
We would wonder then,
what It'd be like living in such a place.

..It's funny how some things can change,
after we obtain it and get hold of it.
Some decisions we make in life are irreversible,
Maybe we should really just cherish what we already have.

..Should we not?

Jo.
